7 Tips to Choose a Painting Contractor for Your Home

You’ve decided it’s time to paint your home exterior, interior, or maybe both the exterior and interior. It’s been a long time since you’ve worked with a painter, and you’re a little unsure of who to call or which company may do the best job for you. What do you do next?

Here are a few tips to help you choose the best house painter in Bradenton or Sarasota so your home looks brand new.

1. Ask your friends and family for recommendations. Find out which local painting contractors they used and what they thought of the work. Does anyone stand out who you should call?
2. Read the online reviews. Look for a company that averages 4.0 or better. Don’t worry about the occasional bad review, as all companies will have them (and it could even be a fake review). Look for overall satisfied clients. Google Reviews, Angi, and Home Advisor are good places to find reviews, but find out in advance if using sites like Angi or Home Advisor will prompt companies to contact you directly about the work you want done. You may or may not want that to happen.
3. Get at least two estimates. Getting two estimates (or perhaps more) allows you to compare more than price. You also can compare professionalism and knowledge. When the painters come by for their estimates, have some questions ready to ask about their business and about the job that you want done.
4. Make sure estimates compare apples to apples. As in any industry, an estimate from one business may vary compared to the estimate from another business. For instance, one painter may include materials (including paint) in the estimate, while others don’t. The paint costs can add up, so the first painter’s estimate may seem high until you realize that second estimate didn’t include the paint. As you look at the estimates, try to compare prices equally.
5. Ask for a price match. If you like a paint company but find their pricing a bit high, ask if they’ll match the price from another company. At Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll match a price, but we absolutely will try to work with clients, even if that requires some price negotiation.
6. Ask for two to three references. In addition to online reviews, references can give you the scoop on the quality of a painting contractor’s work.
7. Find out what type of down payment is required, and make sure you’re OK with that amount. For large paint jobs, it’s not uncommon for the paint contractor to ask for a portion of the payment (say 20% to 30%) in advance. This money goes toward materials and other costs to get the job started. It’s better to know upfront how you’ll need to pay for the job than to find out at the last minute that you need to shell out some funds sooner than you thought.

1. Give the walls a new paint color. Is the drab brown or gray just not doing it for you anymore? Then choose a newer, vibrant color for your walls. Top Paint Color Trends for 2021

Lots of homeowners are looking to refresh their home right now, especially as they continue to
work and educate kids from home. If you’re due for an interior repainting, consider tapping into
the color trends slated for 2021. Repainting your home can give it a different look and feel.

The 2021 colors selected by major paint suppliers such as Behr, PPG, and Sherwin Williams are
centered around nostalgia, nature, calm, and comfort, perhaps for all the obvious reasons—2020
has been a whopper of a year, and we need an environment that soothes us, according to a
Southern Living article.

The colors selected by the major suppliers are more subdued than the bolder tones of the past
year or two.

With that in mind, here are seven of the top exterior paint color trends for 2021:

● Brave Ground, which is an earthy shade that makes you think of nature. Brave Ground
is Dulux’s Color of the Year.

● Smoky White, one of Behr’s 2021 Colors of the Year. It looks just like the name
implies—a smokier, calmer white.

● Euphoric Magenta, also from Behr’s list. This bolder purplish color could work great in
smaller areas like a bathroom or any area where you want to add a bold splash.

● Big Cypress, named by PPG as a 2021 color, is a ginger-orange with a persimmon
undertone. PPG describes it as the right color for a “warm, huggable room.”

● Misty Aqua is a turquoise aqua with an aquamarine undertone that pairs well with light
creams. Misty Aqua is also a 2021 color as named by PPG.

● Blustery Sky is a 2021 color named by Sherwin Williams that offers a darker blue mixed
with sky tones.

● Limón Fresco, or fresh lime, offers fun and cheer to your walls. It’s also from Sherwin
Williams.

The paint manufacturers mentioned above selected many other colors from which you can
choose.

6 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for the Holidays

Happy Holidays! With all the parties and dinners going on this time of year, you may be expecting friends, family, or coworkers to visit your home. Naturally, you’ll want your home to look as clean and beautiful as possible. Here are a few ways to spruce up your home for the holidays, so you can dazzle your guests!

1. Get a pressure wash done. Pressure washing is an easy way to clean and brighten your patio, lanai, deck, front porch, and similar exterior areas. Pressure washing is easy to do (or hire a pro to handle it), it’s inexpensive, and it’s good to have done every year or two.

2. Add a new coat of paint to your interior walls. Are your interior walls looking blah? It may time to repaint them. Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling recommends repainting interior walls every three to five years, although that recommendation can vary. Consider adding a bold splash of color if your neutral color isn’t cutting it for you anymore. Read our previous blog on color trends for some modern, attractive ideas.

3. Repaint the exterior. Just like you may look at your interior walls and say, “Meh,” you also might need a fresh new look for your exterior.
