Considering a Wood Ceiling? Here’s How to Make It Look Great

At Waly Precision Remodeling in the Bradenton and Sarasota area, there are a lot of things we can do for your ceiling. We can remove popcorn texture, add more modern texture, repair the ceiling, or paint/repaint it. One request that comes up from time to time is installing and painting a wood ceiling. While this choice may not be for everyone, it can look terrific for the right client.

Here are a few reasons why you may want to consider installing a wood ceiling or having a wood ceiling painted:

• You’ll give the room a warm, inviting look.
• It offers your space an eco-friendlier feel.
• It fits with modern design trends.
• Wood is durable, and you’ll be able to enjoy it for years and years.
• Wood ceilings can help with temperature control, helping you to avoid overheating or overcooling.
• Painting a wood ceiling can update the color to match the décor in the rest of the room. For instance, painting a wooden ceiling white can give the illusion that an area is bigger.

You may automatically think of a log cabin when you hear “wood ceiling,” but start looking around in homes or other buildings. Wood ceilings are more common than you think. The visual effects of a wood ceiling are often dramatic.

Make sure to consider some of the maintenance required with a wood ceiling, including:
• How to avoid water damage
• Controlling fungi and mold
• Pest control
There are special products that will help control for these concerns.

At Waly Precision Remodeling, we recently installed and painted a wood ceiling for a client in the Myakka City area. The results were beautiful. This client will have an attractive, natural-looking ceiling for years to come.

Let us know if you have any questions about the pros or cons of a wood ceiling in your home in the Bradenton or Sarasota area.

7 Tips to Choose a Painting Contractor for Your Home

You’ve decided it’s time to paint your home exterior, interior, or maybe both the exterior and interior. It’s been a long time since you’ve worked with a painter, and you’re a little unsure of who to call or which company may do the best job for you. What do you do next?

Here are a few tips to help you choose the best house painter in Bradenton or Sarasota so your home looks brand new.

1. Ask your friends and family for recommendations. Find out which local painting contractors they used and what they thought of the work. Does anyone stand out who you should call?
2. Read the online reviews. Look for a company that averages 4.0 or better. Don’t worry about the occasional bad review, as all companies will have them (and it could even be a fake review). Look for overall satisfied clients. Google Reviews, Angi, and Home Advisor are good places to find reviews, but find out in advance if using sites like Angi or Home Advisor will prompt companies to contact you directly about the work you want done. You may or may not want that to happen.
3. Get at least two estimates. Getting two estimates (or perhaps more) allows you to compare more than price. You also can compare professionalism and knowledge. When the painters come by for their estimates, have some questions ready to ask about their business and about the job that you want done.
4. Make sure estimates compare apples to apples. As in any industry, an estimate from one business may vary compared to the estimate from another business. For instance, one painter may include materials (including paint) in the estimate, while others don’t. The paint costs can add up, so the first painter’s estimate may seem high until you realize that second estimate didn’t include the paint. As you look at the estimates, try to compare prices equally.
5. Ask for a price match. If you like a paint company but find their pricing a bit high, ask if they’ll match the price from another company. At Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll match a price, but we absolutely will try to work with clients, even if that requires some price negotiation.
6. Ask for two to three references. In addition to online reviews, references can give you the scoop on the quality of a painting contractor’s work.
7. Find out what type of down payment is required, and make sure you’re OK with that amount. For large paint jobs, it’s not uncommon for the paint contractor to ask for a portion of the payment (say 20% to 30%) in advance. This money goes toward materials and other costs to get the job started. It’s better to know upfront how you’ll need to pay for the job than to find out at the last minute that you need to shell out some funds sooner than you thought.

How Do You Refresh Your Home for Spring?

Ah, Ahhhh, spring! The birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and warmer temperatures lead us outdoors or to the beach. That spring fever may also prompt you to make some changes to your home. After all, many of us have been cooped up inside more than ever due to the pandemic, and we’re tired of staring at the same four walls. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to give your home or parts of your home a new look without too much injury to your wallet. Here are five ways to refresh your home for spring.
1. Give the walls a new paint color. Is the drab brown or gray just not doing it for you anymore? Then choose a newer, vibrant color for your walls. Whether you want a full interior painting or just one room, a new color can breathe new life into the look of your home. Think beyond the traditional neutral colors for something more bold, like dark red or purple. Or, consider a coastal theme—in a nod to our Gulf Coast location—with coral or light blue.
If you’re cost-conscious, focus on repainting just one or two rooms instead of the whole house.
Don’t want to DIY your home interior paint job? Then give us a call for a free estimate.
2. Pressure wash your lanai and pool area. Having a lanai makes it so much easier to enjoy the outdoors…but if you get caught up examining dirt spots, leaves, and other messes, it can take that joy away. Here’s an easy solution: Get your lanai and pool area pressure washed. It’s simple, inexpensive, and gives a nice feeling of clean.
3. Consider wallpaper. Believe it or not, wallpaper is cool again. There are endless affordable options available, and wallpaper gives you a way to add a special design to a small room or accent wall. Although today’s wallpaper is easy to apply and remove, we are always available to help if you’d like to stick to the pros.
4. Get those minor drywall repairs done. You’re looking around your home and you like what you see until—oh no—there’s that minor drywall damage on the wall that you’ve been meaning to fix. It could be anywhere, from the bathroom to a bedroom to hallway or ceiling. It’s an eyesore. Getting the drywall damage fixed can contribute to giving your home a fresher look.
5. Paint your front door. Do you have door envy? We don’t know if that’s a thing, but we’re referring to admiring someone else’s freshly painted exterior door and wishing you had something similar at your home. Now’s the time! From a bright red to a vibrant yellow to everything in between, a newly painted front door adds personality to your home. Next thing you know, the neighbors will have “door envy.”
Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling is here to help with any of your painting and remodeling needs, including the items above and many more.

Top Paint Color Trends for 2021

Lots of homeowners are looking to refresh their home right now, especially as they continue to
work and educate kids from home. If you’re due for an interior repainting, consider tapping into
the color trends slated for 2021. Repainting your home can give it a different look and feel.

The 2021 colors selected by major paint suppliers such as Behr, PPG, and Sherwin Williams are
centered around nostalgia, nature, calm, and comfort, perhaps for all the obvious reasons—2020
has been a whopper of a year, and we need an environment that soothes us, according to a
Southern Living article.

The colors selected by the major suppliers are more subdued than the bolder tones of the past
year or two.

With that in mind, here are seven of the top exterior paint color trends for 2021:

●  Brave Ground, which is an earthy shade that makes you think of nature. Brave Ground
is Dulux’s Color of the Year.

Smoky White, one of Behr’s 2021 Colors of the Year. It looks just like the name
implies—a smokier, calmer white.

●  Euphoric Magenta, also from Behr’s list. This bolder purplish color could work great in
smaller areas like a bathroom or any area where you want to add a bold splash.

●  Big Cypress, named by PPG as a 2021 color, is a ginger-orange with a persimmon
undertone. PPG describes it as the right color for a “warm, huggable room.”

●  Misty Aqua is a turquoise aqua with an aquamarine undertone that pairs well with light
creams. Misty Aqua is also a 2021 color as named by PPG.

●  Blustery Sky is a 2021 color named by Sherwin Williams that offers a darker blue mixed
with sky tones.

Limón Fresco, or fresh lime, offers fun and cheer to your walls. It’s also from Sherwin
Williams.

The paint manufacturers mentioned above selected many other colors from which you can
choose.

Although the names of paint colors vary widely by manufacturer, just let us know what color
you have in mind, and we will match it as close as we can. Upon request, we also can bring you
paint samples to try out on your walls, so you can get an idea of how a color looks before
making a full commitment.

If you need a second opinion, we’re here to help! We’ve been asked by many customers to share
our views on the right color choices for their homes.

6 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for the Holidays

Waly Precision Remodeling BradentonHappy Holidays! With all the parties and dinners going on this time of year, you may be expecting friends, family, or coworkers to visit your home. Naturally, you’ll want your home to look as clean and beautiful as possible. Here are a few ways to spruce up your home for the holidays, so you can dazzle your guests!

1. Get a pressure wash done. Pressure washing is an easy way to clean and brighten your patio, lanai, deck, front porch, and similar exterior areas. Pressure washing is easy to do (or hire a pro to handle it), it’s inexpensive, and it’s good to have done every year or two.

2. Add a new coat of paint to your interior walls. Are your interior walls looking blah? It may time to repaint them. Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling recommends repainting interior walls every three to five years, although that recommendation can vary. Consider adding a bold splash of color if your neutral color isn’t cutting it for you anymore. Read our previous blog on color trends for some modern, attractive ideas.

3. Repaint the exterior. Just like you may look at your interior walls and say, “Meh,” you also might need a fresh new look for your exterior. Exterior paint jobs are an excellent time to get a pressure wash done, fix any cracks, and use the same or perhaps a new exterior color. We’d love to tell you about the many paint options available. Just contact us for ideas.

4. Get your kitchen cabinets painted. Just like there are some wall colors that are popular at any given time, kitchen cabinets also have colors that can go in or out of style. Perhaps you want to modernize your cabinets, or you’re just tired of the current color. Changing the cabinets could make you feel like you’ve gotten your whole kitchen remodeled–without the price tag!

5. Add new flooring. If you’re tired of carpeting, there are lots of potential new flooring options to consider that are easy to clean. For example, vinyl plank is popular, relatively inexpensive, and can provide a variety of looks, from farmhouse rustic to modern. If a flooring update for your whole house is too much, then you can get it done in a room or two.

6. Update your entry. Have you been taking your entryway for granted? If so, you’re not alone. It’s easy to ignore this workhorse area of our home. However, adding a fresh coat of paint to the entry and adding a piece of furniture for keys, wallets, and pursess could provide just the new look you want. It’ll be the first thing guests see in your home, and it could wow them!

Improve the Stucco Work Around Your Home Professionally

Waly Precision Remodeling Home RepaintedIf you need some work done on the exterior of your home, you may start to wonder what stucco is and when you might need to repair stucco at your home.

Stucco is a construction material that is applied wet and then becomes a hard solid. Stucco is used to add a decorative coating or architectural detail to walls and ceilings. It also can be used to cover metal, concrete, or other construction materials. Stucco can be used inside or outside but is more typically applied to a home’s exterior. Stucco is particularly popular in Florida as well as the Southwest of the U.S. and California, according to Angie’s List.

There are several advantages to using stucco around your home:
1. It’s strong.
2. It’s durable.
3. It can be applied to several types of home materials.
4. The color of stucco can be changed to your liking.

Sometimes, the stucco work at your house may need to be repaired. This can be due to water damage, cracks, stains, mildew, or even mold. It’s important to repair stucco before the stucco problem becomes more elaborate and expensive. Stucco damage can affect your home’s appearance and lower the value. You should take a close look at the stucco around your home at least once a year to check for any damage that needs repair. Call a trusted professional if you see anything that looks unusual.

Although you could manage small stucco jobs yourself, Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling strongly recommends hiring a stucco professional to get the job done. At Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling, we have a seasoned stucco professional ready to help you out. We can show you pictures of our previous work, provide references, and give a free estimate. If you need painting done after stucco repair, we can help get with that as well.

Here’s Why You Should Have Your Home Pressure Washed Regularly

Waly Precision Remodeling Pressure Washed

A pressure wash is an affordable way to get rid of dust, debris, and other build up around your home. If you’re looking to refresh your home’s appearance, perhaps as part of regular maintenance or to prep for a home sale, a pressure wash is an easy first step. Pressure washing also helps to maintain your paint longer.

During a pressure wash, Waly Precision Remodeling will provide an estimate for your home’s pressure wash. The price can vary widely based on the size of your home. A pressure wash of a small part of the home may only be around $100, while, a large home pressure wash could cost a few hundred dollars.

We often are asked how often homes in the Bradenton and Sarasota area should be pressure washed. Although once a year is a good rule of thumb, the truth is, there’s no uniform answer that applies to all homeowners. In our more humid environment in Florida, there tends to be more frequent buildup of mold and mildew. Heavy rains during rainy season can lead to more dirt and debris as well as leaves. If your home is surrounded by trees, it will likely accumulate dirt and debris faster. Bottom line: If you think your home exterior is dirty enough to need a pressure wash, you’re probably right!

5 Reasons to Have Your Bradenton or Sarasota Home Repainted

Waly Precision Remodeling Home Repainted

Take a look around your house right now. Is it in need of makeover? If you think that updating your home means spending a lot of money for a top-to-bottom new look, think again. One easy start is to have your home repainted. Here are some of the top reasons to have your home interior or exterior repainted.

  1. You’ll add to your home’s value. Repainting your home can potentially make your house worth more if you are going to sell it. If you are putting your home up for sale, it also gives your home an edge over competing homes that have a worn-out look versus something fresh.
  2. You can easily update your home’s style. Let’s say your home color(s) is something that was popular five or ten years ago but not much right now. A repaint is an easy way to modernize your home’s look.
  3. It’s cleaner. A fresh paint job gets rid of wall staining and odors that may hang around with older paint work. It helps you home both smell and look better.
  4. It gives you an ideal time to address wall repairs. If you need minor (or even major) drywall work, an ideal time to get that done is during a repaint. That way, your home is in even better shape, whether you’ll stay in for years to come or if you plan to put it on the market. Your painting company can make recommendations about drywall and related repairs that your home may need.
  5. Sometimes, it’s just time to repaint. An exterior repaint is generally recommended every 10 years (sometimes more frequently depending on the climate), and exterior walls should be repainted every three to seven years, depending on how dirty your home can get. When you reach that point where you know you’d feel better about your home with a paint refresh, give us a call.
