7 Tips to Choose a Painting Contractor for Your Home

You’ve decided it’s time to paint your home exterior, interior, or maybe both the exterior and interior. It’s been a long time since you’ve worked with a painter, and you’re a little unsure of who to call or which company may do the best job for you. What do you do next?

Here are a few tips to help you choose the best house painter in Bradenton or Sarasota so your home looks brand new.

1. Ask your friends and family for recommendations. Find out which local painting contractors they used and what they thought of the work. Does anyone stand out who you should call?
2. Read the online reviews. Look for a company that averages 4.0 or better. Don’t worry about the occasional bad review, as all companies will have them (and it could even be a fake review). Look for overall satisfied clients. Google Reviews, Angi, and Home Advisor are good places to find reviews, but find out in advance if using sites like Angi or Home Advisor will prompt companies to contact you directly about the work you want done. You may or may not want that to happen.
3. Get at least two estimates. Getting two estimates (or perhaps more) allows you to compare more than price. You also can compare professionalism and knowledge. When the painters come by for their estimates, have some questions ready to ask about their business and about the job that you want done.
4. Make sure estimates compare apples to apples. As in any industry, an estimate from one business may vary compared to the estimate from another business. For instance, one painter may include materials (including paint) in the estimate, while others don’t. The paint costs can add up, so the first painter’s estimate may seem high until you realize that second estimate didn’t include the paint. As you look at the estimates, try to compare prices equally.
5. Ask for a price match. If you like a paint company but find their pricing a bit high, ask if they’ll match the price from another company. For large paint jobs, it’s not uncommon for the paint contractor to ask for a portion of the payment (say 20% to 30%) in advance. This money goes toward materials and other costs to get the job started. It’s better to know upfront how you’ll need to pay for the job than to find out at the last minute that you need to shell out some funds sooner than you thought.

6 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for the Holidays

Happy Holidays! With all the parties and dinners going on this time of year, you may be expecting friends, family, or coworkers to visit your home. Naturally, you’ll want your home to look as clean and beautiful as possible. Here are a few ways to spruce up your home for the holidays, so you can dazzle your guests!

1. Get a pressure wash done. Pressure washing is an easy way to clean and brighten your patio, lanai, deck, front porch, and similar exterior areas. Pressure washing is easy to do (or hire a pro to handle it), it’s inexpensive, and it’s good to have done every year or two.

2. Add a new coat of paint to your interior walls. Are your interior walls looking blah? It may time to repaint them. Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling recommends repainting interior walls every three to five years, although that recommendation can vary. How to Prepare Your Home Before Painters Arrive

Congratulations! You’ve decided to get your home in Bradenton or Sarasota repainted. We know that takes a commitment, not to mention extra expense and time. However, once the work is done, you’ll home will have a fresh look to enjoy.

To maximize what house painters like Waly Precision Painting and Remodeling can do for you, make sure to do some advance planning. Here are a few tips we like to offer to our Bradenton, Sarasota, and Anna Maria Island clients before we show up and get to work on interior or exterior painting.

Consider paint colors. Do you want to use the exact same color you have now, or something drastically different? That can make a big difference with the cost, so let us know. That way, we can provide the most accurate estimate. We always appreciate customers who do their research in advance regarding colors and paint type. Some even know exactly what color they want and from what paint manufacturer. That said, don’t worry if you’re not ready with a firm idea when we show up. We’re happy to provide our feedback on a good match for your home and obtain some paint samples. One consideration: It sometimes can be hard to match a color exactly, especially if your previous paint job is older or if you don’t know the paint name or manufacturer. Be prepared for some flexibility in those situations.
Know that not all paint estimates are the same. We often will quote for clients a price with the use of medium-quality versus higher-quality paint. Both are great choices, but some clients may opt for higher-quality. For instance, those living near the beach who are having exterior paintwork done often choose higher quality to help protect their home against the elements. Higher-quality paint also can last longer.
Take a close look at your walls. If you have any areas that may need minor repair, be sure to point them out so we can handle them while we’re working. Although we may spot them along the way, it’s always a big help if you show us as well, so we can mark them for our painters.
Get Fido comfortable in a temporary space. When we’re ready to come paint, keep your hounds in a safe area so they can chew on bones and go potty without us stepping in their way. (Bradenton and Sarasota have some great doggy daycare facilities, too.) If you have cats that like to hide or escape, let us know in advance so we can be extra cautious.
Let us handle the heavy lifting. We’re more than happy to move furniture and wall hangings when we arrive (we’ll also use plastic covers/drop cloths when necessary). That said, it can be a time-saver if you move items before we show up. Some customers prefer to move treasured items on their own.
